🕊️ What To Do When You Feel Spiritually Stuck

By Tammy Rae – The Midlife Well

There are seasons when faith feels alive—when prayer flows easily, Scripture feels rich, and God feels close.

And then there are seasons when it doesn’t.
You open your Bible, and the words blur.
You pray, and the silence feels deafening.
You serve, but your spirit feels dry.

This is what we call being spiritually stuck.

And if you’re here in midlife, you’re not alone.

đź’§ Even the Woman at the Well Was Stuck

The Samaritan woman had patterns. She went to the well every day, at the same time, carrying the same jar. Her life felt small, repetitive, and marked by shame.

But then Jesus showed up.

He didn’t wait for her to climb out of the rut on her own. He met her in it, and offered living water that broke the cycle.

That’s what He does for us, too.

🌿 Three Ways to Break Free From Spiritual Stuckness

1. Shift from Routine to Relationship

It’s easy to treat faith like a checklist. Instead of asking, “Did I read, did I pray?” try asking, “Did I meet with God today?”

2. Change Your Environment

Sometimes a simple shift—a walk outside with Scripture, journaling in a new place, or worship music in the car—can stir fresh connection with God.

3. Invite Accountability

Share honestly with a trusted friend, mentor, or small group. Stuck seasons lose power when brought into the light.

🕊️ Scripture for the Stuck Season

  • “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” – James 4:8

  • “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit.” – Psalm 51:12

🌸 A Prayer for the Spiritually Stuck

Lord, I confess I feel dry, distant, and stuck. But I believe You are still here, still present, and still faithful. Break me out of this rut and refresh me with living water. Restore my joy and help me walk closely with You again. Amen.

đź«— Final Thought

Being spiritually stuck doesn’t mean you’re broken or faithless—it means you’re human.

And just like the woman at the well, Jesus will meet you in the middle of it. Not with condemnation, but with living water that renews your soul.
