Part 1: Matthew 7 — Ask, Seek, Knock: Trusting God in Action
As we continue through the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 7 offers some of Jesus’ most encouraging and practical guidance. Here, He teaches about prayer, trust, and discernment:
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” — Matthew 7:7 (NKJV)
In midlife, it’s easy to feel overlooked or unsure of God’s plans. Perhaps you’ve prayed for years for clarity, direction, or breakthrough. Jesus reminds us that God responds to persistent faith and action, inviting us to ask boldly, seek intentionally, and knock with expectation.
Jesus also warns about discernment: not every path or teacher leads to life. He reminds us to build our lives on His Word, the solid foundation, so we can stand firm amid challenges.
Reflection: Trusting God in Action
Are you persistent in prayer, seeking God’s direction with expectation?
Where in your life do you need discernment or clarity?
How can you build your decisions and actions on God’s Word as your foundation?
Application for Midlife
This is a season to take faith-filled action, even when the outcome isn’t fully visible. Ask, seek, and knock in practical ways:
Ask God to show the next step in relationships, work, or ministry.
Seek guidance through Scripture, mentors, or prayerful reflection.
Knock by taking tangible action — reaching out, forgiving, serving, or making a decision.
Ask yourself:
Where can I step forward this week in faith, trusting God to open the door?
What foundation am I building my life on — worldly opinion or God’s truth?
